Austin Shift Meal
In light of the COVID-19 crisis, many workers in Austin’s hospitality industry have been affected by closures and layoffs. Inspired by the HoustonShift Meal team, Austin Shift Meal has adopted the concept to our local Austin economy. We are dedicated to providing these individuals with meals so that no one goes hungry.
The hospitality sector remains the hardest hit areas of the local economy. Most places have not re-opened with has further increased the demand for the Austin Shift Meal. In fact, with current trends restaurants are now having to shut back down and all bars have just been ordered to close again. To date we have done 32 events and given over 11,200 meals away from over 85 local restaurants. Our generous sponsors have supplemented the Austin Shift Meal with healthy snacks, meal replacement bars, cookies, beverages, and even PPE masks to help keep people healthy at a distance.
To continue growing the Austin Shift Meal, we need further financial support in order to keep pace with the increased demand. We aim to increase the frequency of Austin Shift Meal distributions by bringing on new restaurant meal partners, new Austin Shift Meal location hosts, new complete meal sponsorships and monetary donations in order to keep our mission sustainable, growing, and healthy. We believe that this is best achieved through our network of local community partners, businesses, suppliers, and dining patrons. Austin Shift Meal is accepting financial sponsorships and donations from those who wish to help from and continue the mission of feeding hospitality professionals in need. Past and current supporters have been many hospitality industry suppliers, businesses, and individuals. These sponsorships go directly to our restaurant partner to help offset their costs as they take care of our industry family during these difficult times.
For every $600 sponsorship received, a restaurant will be able to produce 70 meals.Recently we have joined forces with Good Works Austin. Good Works Austin is a group of local restaurants that advocates for a healthy workplace, community, and employees. They require the restaurants to pay their employees a minimum for $15 an hour, the restaurants must use at least 50% local ingredients and use recyclable materials for their to-go packaging.
We have been featured on KXAN, CBS, Eater, The Austin Chronicle, SevenFifty Daily, Austin 360, The Statesman, and Austin Culture Map.
Thank you for supporting Austin's hospitality community. We are all in this together!
