Farm to Table Cooking Class Series

Last date was Tuesday, May 7th, 2019 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm (CT)

We believe that every child should have the opportunity to love healthy foods. We believe that if given the skills and knowledge necessary to have a more active role in their food choices children will desire to become proponents for their health.

The Farm to Table Cooking Class Series builds enthusiasm around fresh fruits and vegetables and empowers students with the skills and the desire to prepare healthy food. It is a unique way for students to learn how to prepare a meal.

Apple Seeds hosts students in our garden kitchen where the kids are in charge for the day – they read recipes, they harvest the ingredients, they prepare recipes at cooking stations, they pick flowers for the table, they set the table, and they sit down together in the garden to eat. This novel experience shows the students how to make healthy eating a fun adventure.

This series is six courses for students from Helen Tyson Middle School. Students get to take home cooking tools and fresh produce to practice what they learn back at home!

We need you all to help this students have more one on one interaction with adults, more supervision to allow more freedom to use heat and knives in the kitchen, and to show them that their is a whole community who supports them and wants to see them succeed.

One-time volunteers are OK but would prefer students who can commit to at least two of the courses held on the Apple Seeds Farm.
