Housing our Heroes II: Veteran Homeless Outreach Training + Event!

Please join us in our second Austin/Travis County Homeless Veteran Outreach and Engagement Series! As part of the Austin/Travis County commitment to end veteran homelessness by Veteran's Day 2015, the Austin Homeless Veterans Initiative (AHVI) is hosting the second of three Homeless Veteran Outreach & Engagement events on September 12th, 2015 with a Training Session the day before on September 11th. In order to make this event a success, we need your help!

THE GOAL: The goal of this outreach event will be to engage veterans who are experiencing homelessness and rapidly help connect them to housing solutions. By knowing each veteran by name and what type of support they might be eligible, ECHO and its partner agencies can most effectively target services and provide housing assistance.

ABOUT THE ENGAGEMENT SERIES: Small teams of volunteers and community staff will be paired to canvass strategic geographic areas in Austin/Travis County where we have documented veterans during previous Point in Time Counts. We will have a VA staff at headquarters who will be available to verify veteran status during the engagement and connect any veteran who is VA eligible to VA Medical Care Trained Coordinated Assessment staff will be on each team (or serve multiple teams) to provide a coordinated assessment to any veterans identified Once veterans are identified and if they are interested in support, we will make referrals to housing programs for continued support.

The second Veteran Homeless Outreach Initiative event will take place on the morning of September 12th, 2015, from 6:00AM-10:00AM and we are looking for 100 volunteers!  The registration here is for a training held at City Hall in the Council Chamber, the evening before on September 11th from 6-8:00PM.

Please note: All volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Ready, Willing, and Able.
