Your computer and resume skills can do amazing things for your community!
Austin’s Employ & Empower Job Fair is a collaborative event hosted by 5 nonprofit organizations committed to supporting and empowering the local homeless community in gaining stability and self-sufficiency in a variety of ways.
By serving at the May 28 Resume Rally you will play an instrumental role in providing sustainable employment for a homeless individual who seeks a new beginning. As a Volunteer Trainer you will work one-on-one with homeless community members towards the development of a professional resume. This task requires patience, sensitivity, basic computer literacy, and basic resume-development skills, though you will be provided with a clear outline for the training. The web-based outline includes resume templates, guides to choosing a template, a resume bullet-point database, and computer literacy resources. The May 28 Resume Rally will be based at the Austin Free-Net computer lab in the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (ARCH) and the individuals you support will be displaying their resumes proud at a private job fair the following week. 60% of Employ & Empower 2014 attendees found employment within 2 weeks and all it took was a little support from the community. We look forward to meeting you!
