Role Title: Personal Development Intern

Report To: Personal Development Manager


Role Big Picture:

The Northwest Project (NWP) Personal Development Intern assists in coaching and personal development for members in programs provided by the Drew Lewis Foundation (DLF). This is achieved through holistic and comprehensive case management and life coaching that helps families reach goals of self-sufficiency, manage crisis, and connect to necessary resources. Services include intake assessment, benefit assessment, goal setting, case plan development, progress monitoring, individual money management, tenant education, client advocacy and referrals.


Responsibilities of Role:



Fundraising Health

  • Represent DLF within applicable fundraising events and initiatives


Financial Health

  • Assist in compiling data to be utilized in grant and community reporting


Team Health

  • Cultivate a healthy supportive team by modeling actions in line with the leadership we wish to see in our community

  • Manage volunteer needs through healthy oversight

  • Develop and manage a relational pulse with volunteers and keep supervisor well-informed of team's voice

  • Interdepartmental communication: work closely with Personal Development Manager and programming to meet specific and unique needs of individuals, families, and cohorts

Operational Health

  • Strategically assist day-to-day Personal Development operations

  • Uphold policies and procedures to secure stability for continuity and growth


Program Health

  • Assist Personal Development Managers with best practices, mission, and department bandwidth

  • Assist with building a stable Personal Development department for sustainability and growth


Community Health

  • Cultivate community relationships and solid partnerships as an advocate for DLF's mission in professional, civic, and private engagements

  • Connect families to community resources through the cultivation of solid partnerships

 

 

 

Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working with families, preferably low-income or high risk

  • Position subject to Criminal Background Check

  • Be self-motivated, punctual, and flexible

  • Ability to convey vision and communicate appropriately  

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with children, staff, parents and volunteers

  • Comprehends community needs and how to access everchanging  resources

  • Understanding of data collection

  • Organizational experience (planning,scheduling, delegating, task facilitation)

  • Ability to motivate others towards achieving goals

  • Ability to convey vision and communicate appropriately  

  • Ability to work with and activate diverse groups of people cohesively (donors, participants, volunteers) and be culturally sensitive and appropriate

  • Ability to work independently with strong sense of focus, task-oriented, nonjudgmental, open personal qualities, clear sense of boundaries.

  • A strong sense of and respect for confidentiality involving both clients and fellow employees

  • Driven professionalism  

  • Understanding of non-profit organizational dynamics


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist Personal Development Manager with a caseload of 30-50 families

  • Assist with connecting and upkeep of members of program

  • Connect families with needed and available community resources

  • Follow-up with clients and agencies as appropriate to document use/success of referral

  • Review and verify data collection submitted by program members

  • Conduct outreach to neighborhood schools, businesses, families and health care providers

  • Provide all required documentation in a timely manner, which may include client follow-up, outcome evaluation, client contact sheets, and evaluations

  • Participate in regular staff meetings, staff training programs, supervisory sessions, and accept the responsibility for aiding the development of positive team relationships as requested

  • Promote quality and cost-effective interventions and outcomes

  • Adhere to Drew Lewis Foundation and MSU policy and procedures

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
