Upperclassmen needed to mentor freshmen commuters.
The program runs the duration of the Fall 2015 semester. Twenty mentors will be selected to serve as student leaders, and each mentor will be assigned ten freshmen commuters. This is a meaningful way to get involved in campus and help freshmen commuters to transition in to successful Razorbacks. Please, see below for more information or contact Margaret Hindman, Off Campus Connections Programming Assistant, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
To apply, complete this brief form by August 7th.
Attend one of the following training sessions:
Monday, August 10 at 2:00 p.m.
Friday, August 21 at 11:00 a.m.
Wednesday, August 26 at 12 p.m.
Wednesday, August 26 at 5:30 p.m.
Communicate with each mentee individually each week to support them in their transition and educate them on campus resources (email, phone, or face-to-face depending on freshmen commuter’s preference). A schedule of pertinent discussion topics will be provided.
Plan 7 small group gatherings on or off campus to build a relationship with the 10 mentees in your group.
Gathering ideas: Visit the farmer's market, attend First Thursday on the Square or University of Arkansas sporting events, picnic in local parks, hike/walk trails, bake cookies, craft, meet over ice-cream or coffee, play board games, help mentees find their classes on campus or tour campus resources (e.g. Writing Center, library, etc.)
Communicate provided information about campus resources.
Briefly document contacts with mentees.
A $200 stipend will be provided to each mentor when all obligations are met (at the end of the program). Clearly, it’s more about helping your fellow students than it is about the money!
Must meet requirements as outlined on application.
