Join the 5th Annual Brain Power 5K, Central Texas’ Race Against Brain Cancer on Sunday, September 13th! The BP5K funds brain cancer research, recognizes brain tumor survivors and remembers loved ones lost to this devastating disease. The 5th Annual Race on September 13th, is proud to benefit the Dr. Marnie Rose Foundation for Brain Cancer Research at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, as well as local efforts in our Central Texas brain tumor community. We need 4 people to hold a rope to make a pathway through the crowd at the start line for our survivors.

Remind ALL Brain Tumor Survivors of when/where (look for gray survivor shirts) the Survivor Stride will begin...around 8:25am...they will meet near the big inflatable brain. And have the Survivor Stride banner ready for them to walk through about 10-15yds from the finish line so that people can see them coming towards all participants lined up ready for the 5k. Then they walk through the banner towards the start line into the crowd. The finish line announcer will start speaking about it...music will play.

When he says the words " Welcome to our 2015 Brain Tumor Survivors"- that is when they should start going through the banner.

The survivors will have all received an email and paper on these instructions prior to race day as well.

We need 2 tall and strong people to hold either side of the 'break-away' banner while the survivors walk/run through the banner. Try to keep the top part together so they all have a chance to walk through 'something'.

After this project, we will need your help back in your previous position or in a new position for the rest of the morning. If you are unsure, just check back in at the Volunteer Table. Please put the Survivor Stride banner behind the Registration table.

The Survivor Stride will take place after the Kids Fun Run and after all participants have been encouraged to come line up for the start of the race. This is after the warm-up with Gold’s Gym where everyone is already lined up for the race…we want to have the MAJORITY of the participants over there as if the Survivors will be ‘parting the sea’.

AFTER the Gold’s Gym warm-up we need to have 2 Volunteers on each side, so 4 total (kids would be great) stand at the start line and take the rope down the middle of the start line area crowd to make a ‘pathway’ for the survivors to walk through. They will go perpendicular to the start line and be far enough away from each other for 2 people to fit across; about 4 ft..

Survivors are getting emails and hard copy messages to meet at the inflatable brain at 8:15am, brain tumor survivor photo at 8:20am-- to follow the brain tumor survivor flag. The flag does not need to go on the Stride unless someone really wants to carry it. It can be left behind the breakaway banner; as it will tear it if it goes through.

The breakaway banner: the tallest people would be best to hold this; that way all heights get to experience going 'through it'. We'd like to have the top part of the banner remain together so you can see what it is- otherwise there is no banner. No one will break-away the top part if tall people are holding it.

The survivors are going to walk to the song: "This is My Fight Song". The MC has been directed to start it quiet while he introduces them and when he says: WELCOME our 2015 Brain Tumor Survivors, please tell them to go ahead and start coming...if anyone wants to run and go first, by all means please let them!
