Description

Austin Partners in Education (APIE) is seeking STEM professionals to participate as volunteers in our new program, Career Conversations. These professionals will talk about their careers to 8th grade students at Webb Middle School and hopefully inspire more students to pick the STEM endorsement (path of study) in high school and pursue STEM-related careers in college and beyond.

Focusing on Austin ISD’s schools located in under-resourced communities and serving predominantly economically disadvantaged students, APIE delivers innovative, volunteer-driven academic and mentoring programs.

Our pilot program will launch in December 2015 and run through the spring semester in 2016. We are seeking  engineers who are already established in their careers, particularly in high growth professions such as Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Each speaker will need to present to between 4 and 6 classes of middle school students on one school day in January, February, or early March 2016.

Please contact Hannah Carney at hcarney@austinpartners.org if you are interested in learning more about volunteering in APIE’s Career Conversations program.
