Description
Yuliya Lanina presents Not a Sad Tale. Yuliya is a Russian- born American multimedia artist who lives and works in Austin, TX. Her work ranges from paintings and mechanical sculptures to animations and video. Lanina is particularly interested in turning the traditional medium of painting into a multi-dimensional and interactive experience for the viewer. She strives to accomplish this by creating interactive mechanical sculptures with original soundtrack as well as stop motion animations based on her paintings and accompanied by original music compositions. Both of these endeavors result in a "New Painting"– multi-sensory, time-based, and in action.

Notes on the Classification of Spectral Lines, the Art of Water Writing, and Other Important Ephemera
is the first collaboration between Rebecca Whitehurst and Stephen Pruitt, a mish-mash of short vignettes about topics ranging from baseball signs to the feminist history of astrophysics; the apparent absence of alien life to the sparseness of West Texas radio stations; and from the deconstruction of the music of Les Miserables to the economic game theory of Schelling’s Focal Points and what they can tell us about decoding secret messages. All get jammed together in 80 minutes of lecture, dance and storytelling.
