The trails at Walnut Creek Park need some TLC! The Austin Ridge Riders Mountain Bike Club is teaming up with Austin Parks Foundation for It's My Park Day at Walnut Creek Metro Park. Tools and guidance in sustainable trail stewardship will be provided. Snacks and prizes are are also available!
Needed restoration to the trail includes drainage and erosion improvements, restoration of berms, trimming back of "face slappers" encroaching on the trail, and cleaning up litter along the trails.
We have a need for rock work at key creek crossings. Anyone who is interested in moving large rocks is especially encouraged to participate.
There will be a special task for those not allergic to poison ivy. The rest of us will steer clear of that particular plant!
Remember to wear closed toed shoes, long pants, bring water, and dress appropriately for the weather. We will provide tools and gloves, but if you have tools and gloves, please bring them too. We find that rakes, shovels, and wheelbarrows are often in short supply.
We will meet up at the park pavilion. We will form teams to head out to different areas of the trail system.
Wear sturdy foot ware, preferably boots, gloves, long sleeves and bring water.
