Join City of Austin Park Rangers and the Native Prairies Association of Texas for our monthly volunteer workday at Louis Rene Barrera Indiangrass Wildlife Sanctuary. Barrera WS protects 300 acres of endangered Blackland Prairie on the north shore of Lake Walter E. Long, and volunteers are an integral part of the preserve's restoration.

This month, we'll be removing slash from areas that have recently been burned and seeding native grasses and forbs to help restore plant diversity in the preserve. The work will be moderately strenuous, and volunteers should be prepared to walk at least a mile (the tract is on the opposite side of the preserve from the gate). Please also keep in mind that there are no bathrooms or amenities of any kind.

Here is a map of the location of the preserve gate.

Thanks very much, we're looking forward to seeing you at the preserve!

Never mind, I see what you mean. I'll try to fix it.

Hi Jerry, when I click the link it gives me the right location -- where does it send you?

Oops, the link does get to the right map. Maybe the map on this page could be changed to match?

This map does not point to Lake Walter E Long.
