Funding Sustainable Design Features

Open Opportunity

About

Often capital projects go over budget and require certain green building features to be “value engineered” out. This project would investigate options for separate funding streams that could supplement a project’s budget and allow those features to be included. For example, the solar array on Lincoln Hall was made possible by a gift from a private donor. PSU commits all new construction or major renovation to be LEED Gold certified, but often additional green building features can help a building achieve platinum certification through LEED, and provide examples of more innovative building features to the community

Review of funding models at other universities with similar sustainability focus and/or commitment to building to LEED Gold or higher. Case studies of additional funding for innovative and standard green building features, perhaps including funding models for Living Building Challenge buildings. Research of available grants, partnerships, mechanisms to engage donors, etc. Could include interviews with staff from other universities and projects managers.
