Are you an avid gardener? Do you want to grow a garden but do not have space? Have you ever tried to keep a plant alive but failed? Do you want to learn how to grow a garden or fruit trees?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, you are needed at the Community Garden! Nebraska Extension in Madison County and the Northeast Nebraska Master Gardener program began growing a community garden last year. Produce was donated to the Norfolk Food Pantry and Norfolk Rescue Mission.
This year, volunteers are needed in all stages of the growing season! Planting seeds, weeding, watering, and picking produce can be daunting tasks, but together we can make the garden grow!
Volunteers are also needed to help pick produce at gardener’s homes. Contact Michelle to coordinate pick up times in late summer or autumn.
We are offering a special program for 4-H members. If you volunteer in the community garden at least two hours, you can select any produce to exhibit at the Madison County Fair! The premium money earned will be yours to keep.
To exhibit at the Madison County Fair, you must:
Contact Michelle Kroupa, Sarah Polacek, or Kristen Sindelar at the Extension Office at 402-370-4040 to sign up for this opportunity! Let us know if you are interested by April 1. Volunteering date(s) and time(s) can be determined later.
Have an abundant garden at home? We will gladly take your produce to donate! Bring your donations to the Extension Office any time during office hours (8 to 5 Monday through Friday). Please donate only quality, edible produce.
