Volunteer Virtually with Downtown Women's Center

Open Opportunity

Our partner, Downtown Women's Center, is looking for remote volunteers to help during COVID-19. This is the perfect opportunity to LOOPin and bring some goodness into the world!

The Downtown Women’s Center (DWC) is the only organization in Los Angeles focused exclusively on serving and empowering women experiencing homelessness and formerly homeless women.

DWC envisions a Los Angeles with every woman housed and on a path to personal stability. Its mission is to end homelessness for women in greater Los Angeles through housing, wellness, employment, and advocacy.

Founded in 1978, DWC was the first permanent supportive housing provider for women in the U.S.

Some of their remote volunteer opportunities include:
  • Grocery shopping for a resident
  • Walking a resident's dog
  • Running errand for a resident, like picking up a prescription
  • Texting, calling, or online chatting with a resident online to keep them "company"
  • Ad hoc tasks as needed (e.g. researching best prepaid phones, telecommuting software, etc.)

Wondering if you should register to volunteer? Based on the CDC guidelines, we are asking you the following questions:
  1. Have you or someone in your household traveled to a country on the CDC’s Level 3 watch list in the last 30 days? At this time, these include China, Iran, Italy and South Korea. These may change. See the CDC’s guidelines for the most up-to-date list.

  2. Have you been exposed to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19? See the CDC’s risk assessment guidance.

  3. Do you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19? Symptoms can include a fever, cough or shortness of breath. See the CDC’s symptom information.

If you answered "yes" to any of those questions, we ask you not to register. We are doing all we can to align with best practices and keep our community healthy.
