Open Opportunity

Some Mainers face significant barriers to work, independence and self-sufficiency due to their lack of good reading and writing skills. In todayâs economy, education is critical to economic stability and individual opportunity. Literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving skills are the foundation to adult success. You can make a difference - become a Tutor or Board member or help out at a Family Literacy event. Currently in-person tutoring is on hold, however we will need tutors once we are back up to full capacity. We have scheduled our June tutor training into an on-line format over two evenings, June 16 & 18. Many people found themselves out of a job during the health crisis and our hope is to be able to help Maine people improve job skills so they have more opportunities when the economy is impacted in this way. We also need to explore more methods to reach individuals who have limited access to technology. YOU CAN HELP
