Project GEM has 7 teaching positions in art and music education available next fall. This is a paid position (stipend). Youth ages range from 7-18 years old.  Youth fall under the low income/poverty family standards with mild to moderate social/behavioral disabilities.  This position will give an Education major with an emphasis in art and/or music, an opportunity to gain hands-on field experience in the classroom. 

Basic Requirements:
  • Junior or Senior planning to graduate with a degree in education with a focus in art or music Ed.
  • Looking to gain experience teaching disadvantaged/low income youth
  • Has available transportation to sites located in the following communities: Mankato, St. Peter, St. Clair
  • Will consider only college students that are responsible and have an interest in teaching youth with a concentration in art or music Ed.  

  • Placement is needed by August 1st to start mid September
  • Class times:  flexible depending on which location/site 
  • Class day: Set up by site staff and student teacher that fits best into their schedule

Project G.E.M. is a nonprofit outreach organization which addresses problems and needs of low income/at-risk youth ages 7 to 18 years old. Created in 1993, Project G.E.M. (Growth, Experience and Motivation) offers cultural, environmental, and holistic/social  innovative educational activities to increase reading and writing skills, foster healthy forms of creative self-expression, and help build a strong sense of self-esteem and accomplishment through the arts.

All college students need available transportation to and from the teaching location site both in Mankato and St. Peter.
