Job Description

Job Title: Communication Organizer 

Department:  Passion Impact Work-Study Staff

Supported by:  Executive Director and High School Program Coordinator

Hired by:  Executive Director on a rolling basis


To equitably and inclusively organize and disseminate communication externally to appropriate constituents of Passion Impact

Location: Remote

Time: 10-20 hours per week depending on money allotted as a work-study student

Hourly Rate: $13.50

Start Date: October 6, 2020

Minimum Class Credit: 6 hours



During Spring 2020, students collaborated to produce consistent communication throughout quarantine on the Connectors Team. As they neared the summer, we hired three Communications Interns who developed an Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) Plan that is to be used as a guide for the Communication Organizer between September 2020 and June of 2021. 


The Communication Organizer will collaborate with all internal players of Passion Impact to organize a communication calendar that accurately portrays and includes mission and activities. While following the Communication Interns’ IMC Plan, it will be imperative to understand and adapt communication to the continually changing environment. This position will require the organizer to manage posting approvals, communication calendars, graphic designs, social media, website updates, and monthly newsletters. The Communication Organizer will be supported by the Executive Director and will solicit support from students when needed. 

What does success look like?

When the Communication Organizer is successful, all of Passion Impact’s constituents will be able to be able to engage and feel supported in ways that are meaningful to them.. This includes leading and joining student led volunteer opportunities; engaging in social media conversations and learning; understanding how to partner as a school, nonprofit, or teacher;  understanding how to support PI as a business, volunteer, community member, or donor; and knowing what PI represents the entire time. 


  • Read the book “Emerging Strategy” and engage in ongoing social justice training internally and externally

  • Understand, follow, and update the IMC Plan Communicate and collaborate with multiple volunteer leaders within Passion Impact

  • Polish key processes

  • Manage communication calendar

  • Collaborate and produce content for social media and newsletters 

  • Implement analytical decisions based on data from social media and MailChimp

  • Publish a newsletter at least once every month to each target market

  • Research current events and collaborate on responses through communication

  • Attend weekly meetings with PI staff

  • Attend monthly Board meetings (Wednesdays from 7-8:30 PM)


  • Humorous and intentional 

  • Relationship driven

  • Professional writing and editing experience or previous experience as an editor

  • Operate with the utmost journalistic integrity

  • High level of organization skill, ability to multi-task and work with hard deadlines

  • Able to manage a monthly project from start to completion

  • Able to work with other members of “newsletter team” to communicate expectations, goals, deadlines, etc.

  • Attention to detail, especially in editing, proofing

  • Proficient computer skills—use of Google docs, Mailchimp, Internet

  • Personal commitment to volunteerism and education

Other Requirements

  • Must successfully pass a Background check
