Giving USA 2020 For 65 years, Giving USA: The Annual Report on Philanthropy has provided comprehensive charitable giving data for reliant donors, fundraisers and nonprofit leaders. Jeff Jowdy, president of Lighthouse Counsel and board member of The Giving Institute, and Karen Kemp, senior consultant with Lighthouse Counsel, will share an overview of the Giving USA 2020 findings, as well as what they are seeing and recommending in the current philanthropic environment. Giving USA is a public outreach initiative of Giving USA Foundation™ and is researched and written by the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. The Giving USA Foundation endeavors to advance philanthropy through research and education. The Giving Institute, the parent organization of Giving USA Foundation™, consists of member organizations that have embraced and embodied the core values of ethics, excellence and leadership in advancing philanthropy.

Karen Kemp is a Lighthouse Counsel senior consultant with more than 20 years of experience as a results-driven fundraising and nonprofit professional. She served for ten years as director of development at Darton State College and as executive director of four nonprofits in the health, arts, and human services fields. Karen is active in community affairs and serves on the state board of the Georgia Network to End Sexual Assault. A former Rotary president, she was recognized with a Martin Luther King Dream Award for her work on behalf of Georgia’s children and their families. Karen graduated from Leadership Albany and has served as State Public Affairs Chair for the Junior Leagues of Georgia. She serves on the board of Family Literacy Connection and is a volunteer with the Atlanta Chapter of the March of Dimes. She attended the University of Georgia and graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degree in political science. Jeff Jowdy is president and founder of Lighthouse Counsel. He has more than 35 years of nonprofit leadership experience as a CEO, chief development officer, human resources professional and consultant. A past president of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Nashville Chapter, he was recognized as their Fundraising Professional of the Year. Jeff is also a member of the AFP Atlanta chapter, the Rotary Club of Nashville, Sons of the American Revolution, Troy University’s Sorrell College of Business Executive Advisory Council and the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication Board of Trust (where he is a past chair). He sits on the NonProfit PRO Editorial Advisory Board and authors the popular Bedrocks & Beacons blog. He is a graduate of Leadership Nashville and Leadership Middle Tennessee, and is immediate past chair of the Phi Kappa Theta National Foundation. He has been named a fellow by the Grady College and received the UGA College of Pharmacy’s Distinguished Service Award. Jeff has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from The University of Georgia and a master’s degree in human resource management from Troy University.
