Teen girls challenged by poverty, violence, educational disparities, and other social issues often lose faith in the possibility that there is more to life than what they see before them.
With the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, the possibility of something different and positive may seem even more out of reach for many girls.
On the bright side, statistics tell us that with mentoring, new possibilities suddenly open up. A vulnerable teen girl who has benefitted from a strong mentor relationship is 55 percent more likely to enroll in college, 78 percent more likely to volunteer, and 130 percent more likely to hold leadership positions. In addition, at-risk youths who had a mentor were 46% less likely to use illegal drugs than their peers.
At Bee the Difference Mentoring Program, we’ve witnessed the truth of these statistics in our work to provide mentorship to vulnerable and at-risk teen girls in Jackson, Mississippi. We founded Bee the Difference to impact the lives of these teen girls by providing mentoring, team building, tutoring, and educational support. Our faith-based nonprofit organization equips and empowers young women with the tools of leadership, conflict resolution, and self-sufficiency so they can build brighter futures.
This year, we have been incredibly blessed with the gift of a venue to host our group mentoring sessions. But this work isn’t done yet. In order to continue to provide our services for free or the lowest cost possible, we are in need of on-going support. No donation is too small or too large, we will be grateful for it all!
* Bee the Difference Mentoring Program is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, so all donations are tax-deductible and will be used exclusively to advance our mission.*
