About

Islanders, it’s almost time to roll up our sleeves and help out our local communities with BIG Event: Alumni Day of Service!

BIG EVENT is a one-day event that gives our Alumni and current students an opportunity to connect with and give back to their specific communities. You may have participated as a student in BIG EVENT before. Beginning in 2021, the Islander Alumni Association is partnering with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi to expand the reach of our Islanders across the state.

Islanders around Texas will be picking up litter at beaches and parks, assisting at COVID-19 vaccination sites and volunteering at local food banks. Volunteer sites will be available in Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio.

Volunteers work independently and in teams to inspect, clean, sort, box and prepare donated food and non-food items to distribute to our Partner Agencies and the communities they serve.

The minimum age to participate is 8 years old. Minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult age 21+ in order to serve.

Click in the city closest to you to sign up! Space is limited. If you don’t live near these cities, but still would like to participate in a volunteer activity please email us at Elvia.Aguilar@tamucc.edu. More detailed information will be emailed out 72 hrs. prior to the event.

Two layered Masks are required and Covid precautions will be followed. Please refer to the CDC link on which masks are appropriate. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/about-face-coverings.html
