Description
Anyone wishing to volunteer at R.O.C.K. must complete orientation and agree to adhere to all R.O.C.K. policies, rules and safety guidelines.
Volunteers will learn the history of R.O.C.K., its mission, safety procedures, rules and regulations, as well as an overview of all volunteer opportunities at R.O.C. K.
New Volunteers can sign up for Orientation, Side Walker 101 and Horse Prep 102 in the same training.

Side Walker training consists of a mock lesson format with mounting and dismounting, various safety holds, and emergency procedures. Hands on training in the arena will take place during this training. All volunteers are required to complete this training prior to entering the arena and working with clients or horses.
Side Walkers must demonstrate that they can keep a client on a horse safely during session and successfully dismount the client in the event of an emergency.
Side Walkers must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk at a steady pace for 45 to 50 minutes and occasionally jog short distances.
Completion of New Volunteer Orientation is a prerequisite for this training.

Hands on grooming and tacking of horses will take place in this training. Volunteers who have completed this course may prep horses for session, but are NOT permitted to lead horses.
