Carnegie Community Engagement Classification

The Carnegie Foundation’s Elective Classification for Community Engagement is a way for Colleges and Universities in the US to gain recognition for institutionalizing community engagement. Campuses must apply for the classification, which is offered every 2 years starting 2024. Campuses that earned the classification in 2015 will need to re-classify in the 2024 or 2026 classification cycle in order to retain the classification. The American Council on Education is the administrative and research home of the classification. Additional information about the Elective Classification for Community Engagement can be found at https://carnegieelectiveclassifications.org/

For the 2024 application cycle, application fees will be based on a campus' full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment and instructional expenses per student, and must be paid in order to access the online application. The application will be available starting March 1st, 2022.
