About

Join the City of Clearwater Volunteer Program and Sustainability Division in celebrating World Oceans Day by cleaning up Sand Key Bayside Park and around the Sailing Center. Let's keep our beaches and oceans clean and beautiful for all to enjoy!

The ocean is important in many ways for every single one of us, be it we live by it or miles away from it. The ocean provides the air we breathe by producing over half of the world’s oxygen and absorbing 50 times more carbon dioxide than our atmosphere. Covering 70% of the Earth’s surface, the ocean regulates our climate to make it livable. The ocean is also a crucial source of food and ingredients for our medicines. Marine transportation and employment opportunities – some 3 million ocean-based jobs in the US - are wholly dependent on the ocean. Lastly, not forgetting recreational uses such as wildlife watching, kayaking, boating and more that we all enjoy here at Clearwater!

To celebrate this special day, we will be sharing 4 tips on how you and I protect the ocean every day. We welcome you to grab a sustainably-sourced swag at the end of the clean-up as a token of appreciation and a reminder for making ocean-friendly lifestyle changes!

Please bring:

·         closed toe shoes

·         plenty of water

·         sunscreen

·         dress for the weather

·         a light snack if needed

We will see you there!
