Help Austin's very own OpenDoor to continue it's mission by building some key structures for the school.
Specifically: Building a Small play structure on the toddler play ground. (Example: playscape, wooden fire truck, ship, house, etc.)
This type of play structure is a vital component in a toddlers play experience. At this stage of their life they are developing essential gross motor and language skills that will enable them to be successful learners in years to come. Through experiences on this type of play structure they are learning to manipulate and control their bodies as they build coordination, balance, and spatial awareness. They are also becoming social beings as they begin to navigate their way through social role-playing experiences that represent their world and promote communication and problem solving.
Building Garden boxes
Research has shown that positive interactions with the natural environment have long lasting effects on a child’s life. Opportunities for gardening are a wonderful way to introduce children to nature while incorporating math, pre-reading, science, and social studies concepts. They also gain appreciation, responsibility, and respect for nature. Having a garden on site gives them the opportunity to plant, tend to, and harvest vegetables. Once harvested, the children learn to prepare and appreciate fresh, organic foods.
