Description
Urban Roots is a youth development organization that uses food and farming to transform the lives of young people and inspire, engage, and nourish the community. We rely on volunteer support to help us maintain our farm. Volunteers help us with planting, harvesting, preparing produce for market, and other farm tasks.

We offer Community Volunteer Mornings from 9:00-11:30am on most Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. More information and a full calendar of opportunities can be found on our website. Volunteer shifts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis; participants must register beforehand. No prior experience is necessary to volunteer; training will be provided. The Urban Roots Farm is located at 7651 Delwau Lane, Austin, TX 78725.

Please Note: These dates are for individuals and groups smaller than 5 people. If you would like to schedule a volunteer day for your group or organization, please email volunteer@urbanrootsatx.org.

All Farm Volunteers:
  • Age Requirement: Our minimum age to volunteer is 10 years old. Children 10-13 years old must be accompanied by an adult and minors ages 14 -17 years old are allowed to volunteer without an accompanying adult and with a signed parental consent form for each visit to the farm. Click here to download the parental consent form for youth volunteers (form is in English and Spanish).
  • What to Wear & Bring: You will be working outside the entire time! Wear close-toed shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty and dress appropriately for the weather. We recommend sun screen for hot days. Bring a re-fillable water bottle. The farm has drinking water available.
  • We work rain or shine! If it is scheduled to rain, the farm work must go on! We have a lot of fun on muddy and rainy days, so please still come help bring in the harvest. We will only cancel in the event of extremely heavy rain or a thunder and lightning storm over the farm. In the event of cancellation we will post it on our Volunteer Days page no later than the day before the scheduled volunteer day.
  • How to get there: The Urban Roots farm is located at 7651 Delwau Lane, in East Austin near the intersection of Bolm Road and 183. Click here for driving directions.
  • Parking: Please observe all signage and park along the road as far onto the north shoulder of the road as possible. Walk down to the entrance of our farm by the Urban Roots sign and walk onto the farm via our driveway.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Urban Roots! Each year we grow over 25,000 pounds of food and we couldn't do it without your help.
