Description
For 35 years, triathletes have gathered on the shores of Lake Michigan for one of the largest triathlons in the world. Volunteer to help support thousands of athletes reach their goals and be a part of the Transamerica Chicago Triathlon weekend!
PerksAll Transamerica Chicago Triathlon volunteers will receive the following:
- All volunteers will receive a race crew shirt
- All volunteers will receive complimentary snacks and/or a light meal and water
- All volunteers can also fulfill volunteer time for school or community programs, meet a new friend or business contact, create new interests or hobbies, and be part of a large scale event

This individual will assist the Ops Center Coordinator, i.e. set up/tear down the Ops Center, organize the equipment and supplies, set up and tear down staff meals, accept deliveries, etc. This person must be able to lift more than 20 lbs, work outdoors in all types of elements, dress for the seasonal weather and be over the age of 18. A valid driver's license is required. (numerous shifts throughout the weekend, prefer the same person but not req’d)

Our first and foremost priority at all times during the race is athlete safety. As a Swim Area Marshal, you will work alongside the Swim Staff in making sure each athlete has a safe experience along the swim course. Duties for swim course may include: lining up athletes along the shore in wave order; directing athlete traffic to or from the swim course; reminding athletes of water-safety rules and/or repeating important instructions; assisting athletes get out of the water; keeping spectators clear of athlete area; assist staff with tear down.

This positions give runners a peace of mind during pre and post-race, than knowing their belongings are safely stored. Duties include labeling and organizing runner's belongings when they drop off, and retrieving them in a timely manner at the end of the race. Bending and lifting up to 12lbs is required for this role.

A dedicated group of volunteers that provide their own kayaks; stationed in specific stations along the route. These stations are intended to be additional rest points, allowing competitors to simply take a break without forward progress being made. This will give them time to gather their breath, collect their thoughts, and alleviate them from becoming true rescue incidents and take more of the lifeguards’ attention. This also keeps athletes from clinging to the sea wall and roughing up their feet.

On the bike course you will monitor the safety, progression, and flow of athletes on the route. This may include: Being positioned at crosswalks, turns, or corners to verbally and/or physically signal directions to athletes along the bike course; Monitor participants and keep spectators from crossing/entering the course. We ask that that bike course marshals maintain an assertive (but composed) personality in terms of crowd control. Spectators are not allowed to cross an active race course unless directed and/or are given permission by a volunteer. Your point of contact for questions will be the Bike Course Staff.
