About
Join Ijams for Weed Wrangle Knoxville 2023 and help restore Citizens Cemetery, Knoxville's oldest Black cemetery! Also sometimes referred to as Eastport Cemetery, this once-forgotten space is estimated to hold the graves of an estimated 5,000 freedmen and slaves, and is being restored under the leadership of Knoxville Re-Animation Coalition.
This event is part of a national volunteer effort to help rescue public parks and green spaces from invasive species by removing harmful trees, vines, and flowering plants.
Volunteers will park at 2226 Cityview Ave., Knoxville, TN 37915 and take a short walk to meet at 9:30 a.m. at the cemetery on Fuller Ave., where it intersects with Sanders Ln. and Addison St. Limited parking also is available along Fuller and Daisy, as well as in an empty lot at the corner of Fuller and Saunders. Carpooling is encouraged.
Tools and gloves will be provided. Wear closed-toed shoes, and long-sleeved shirts and pants to protect yourself from thorns and poison ivy. Wear layers and bring a jacket if it's cold. BRING WATER!
Meeting Spot: Citizens Cemetery
1038 Fuller Ave. Knoxville, TN 37915
