Playground Ambassador – Seasonal - Temporary
Reports To:
Visitor Support Ranger, Attractions and Landscape Supervisor
Purpose of Position:
The Playground Ambassador is responsible for our visitor’s first impression and experience in the Park, The Ambassador must be able to display outstanding visitor hospitality while enforcing playground safety guidelines as well as basic maintenance, and horticultural care. This position requires a person to be out-going, personable and dedicated to helping people while providing guidance and assistance when appropriate. The Playground Ambassador is an ambassador for the Park demonstrating the highest level of professionalism in their public engagement. They are committed to promoting an enjoyable recreational experience to our park patrons by demonstrating Shelby Farms Park Conservancy’s core values.
The Playground Ambassador shall demonstrate a subject-matter expertise in the Park’s history, services, ecology and environmental sustainability. This position will focus on care for the Park’s playground guests with the goal of safety and a positive visitor experience. This position will also work in concert with the other park operations staff to fulfill necessary tasks and assignments to assure the Playground and the facilities are clean, safe and inviting.
Essential Functions:

Interacts with park patrons by being courteous and attentive while ensuring the compliance of playground guidelines.

Promote playground safety and etiquette to facilitate an enjoyable recreational experience for all playground users.

Maintain the playground on a basic as needed basis

Assist law enforcement and emergency first responders when life/safety, criminal, or search/rescue conditions exist within the playground or park.

Works with staff programs coordinator, events/program manager, and facility sales manager by supporting playground activities, special events and related programs

Conducts maintenance checks and reports actions/repairs of the play features to maintain a safe environment and enjoyment of the play areas and equipment
Requirements:

Must be available to work weekends.

Prior experience working with children and/or adults in an outdoor setting.

Excellent communications skills and a service orientation.

Dependable, self-motivated and self-aware

Consistently positive outlook with a “can-do” attitude toward challenges

Physical ability to perform required tasks and work outdoors in extreme environmental conditions (heat, cold, inclement weather).
This is a paid internship - pay rate is $10/hour.
This internship will take place from end of May to the beginning of August - exact schedules will be determined between intern and supervisor.
