Cultural Liaison Mentor (HIAS Long Term Volunteer)

Open Opportunity

About

Work one-on-one with HIAS clients, acting as a cultural liaison and providing varied types of support as asylum seekers learn how to navigate healthcare, education, and public transportation systems.*

As Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, you have many skills that are needed today: a cross-cultural understanding, language skills, flexibility, and understanding of others and their conditions of needing to flee or being evacuated from their homelands.  You do not need to speak the language of those you will help, but an interest in refugee and asylum seeker issues is important.

Volunteers play an integral role in HIAS’ efforts to help refugees and asylum seekers in the U.S. and abroad. Whether you are an experienced educator or attorney, have language skills, or are interested in sharing what you love about your community with newcomers, we invite you to learn more about volunteer opportunities near you.

As we continue to monitor and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of our volunteer opportunities are fully online and some remain unavailable. Please continue to check back for new opportunities.

*We conduct on-boarding for direct service opportunities in the DC area each fall. Please click here to create a basic volunteer profile and subscribe to our monthly newsletter to be notified when we begin our next onboarding cycle.
Please contact our volunteer coordinator at caroline.wolinsky@hias.org with any questions or
