Internship programs include the following. Not all programs are offered every semester. Check our portal for the latest listings!

  • Aquarist & Administration: Gain hands-on experience in animal husbandry, water quality testing, tank maintenance, monitoring animal behavior, and behind-the-scenes administrative work for our summer education programs. Interns will be provided with a thorough training in aquarium maintenance.
  • Aquarist & Education: Learn and apply skills in marine science, aquarium care, animal husbandry, water chemistry, life support system maintenance, visitor relations, and education/public speaking when working with children and adults.
  • Communications/Multimedia: Practice and expand your communications, photography/videography, graphic design, and/or writing skills. Learn how to analyze social media metrics, behind the scenes content maintenance and development, develop an understanding of a media landscape and PR strategy, and more.
  • Environmental Education: Assist in environmental education after school programs for ages K-12 and behind the scenes administrative work. Learn marine science and environmental education methods, how to generate and update education reports, curriculum research and development, and more.
  • Events: Hands-on experience in planning, implementing, and running a successful fundraising event. Assist in obtaining donations, organizing prizes, and setting/cleaning up for events such as Taste of the Bay, the Save The Bay Swim, and the International Coastal Cleanup. 
  • Habitat Restoration: Gain experience in conducting restoration, field monitoring, and planning associated with the restoration of Narragansett Bay coastal and riverine habitats. Gain an understanding of applied ecological restoration techniques, field monitoring protocols, and environmental problem-solving techniques.
  • Nonprofit Development: Help support the day-to-day functioning of STB's development team, assisting in duties related to membership development, donor engagement, events, and volunteer and community outreach.
  • Projects & Leadership: Flexible position in which interns commit to a variety of leadership roles to support the STB mission. Create your own schedule and choose between projects such as leading shoreline cleanups, storm drain marking, aquarium volunteering, mailings, habitat/salt marsh restoration work, and more.
  • Volunteer Management: Organize events (ex. shoreline cleanups), lead volunteers, promote volunteer opportunities and internships, oversee outreach projects, and manage individual volunteer programs.
