Description | Students will work alongside an experienced attorney at the Benton County Courthouse Help Desk to help people represent themselves. Students will get a lot of experience assisting with drafting pleadings. Responsibilities include conducting interviews to determine legal needs, helping people find and fill out legal forms, giving general advice on how things work procedurally, and directing people to resources. Questions at the Help Desk include issues such as divorce, name change, evictions, emancipation, deed transfer, wage garnishment, social security disability, and guardianship. Students must commit to coming at least three times per semester. Rule XV certification is not required. No attorney client relationship is created in this work.
