Direct Engagement: Weekly after school tutoring and enrichment at William D'Abate Elementary School

Tuesday, October 10th from 4:00pm to Friday, December 15th, 2023 6:00pm (ET)
This has ended. If you attended, let the organizer know by recording your Impact!

Volunteers will work with the full-time staff at the William D'Abate Elementary after school
program to deliver well-devised lesson plans to elementary school students in 1:1 or small group settings. These lessons will take into account each student's ages, grade levels, abilities and interests.

If a volunteer has a particular skill or knowledge area that they would like to share with the children (soccer, chess, art, writing, coding, robotics. science etc.)  then D'Abate after school program staff will work with the volunteer to design an age-appropriate lesson plan. Volunteers can also deliver lessons or homework help plans that have already been designed by D'Abate after school program staff and school day teachers to support each student's learning needs.

The after school program runs Monday through Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Tuesday October 10, 2023 to Friday December 15, 2023.

Volunteers are asked to sign up for one or more daily sessions each week. If you are not able to commit to at least one session each week for the duration of the shift please let us know. There are opportunities that require less frequent participation.

D'Abate after school program staff will provide training and support to all volunteers and will be on site to guide and troubleshoot as needed. Volunteers generally also work in pairs or small groups to ensure an appropriate ratio of volunteers to children.

School-based volunteers must complete a set of criminal history checks. The Swearer Center will facilitate this process.
