The Off Center - THIS WORLD MADE ITSELF + MYTH & INFRASTRUCTURE + THIS PLACE

Friday, April 25th, 2014 from 8:00pm to 11:00pm

About

This World Made Itself is a lush (visually and musically) journey through the history of the earth, from the universe's epic beginnings to the complex world of humans. The piece is at once semi-scientific (like flipping through a children's encyclopedia), emotional, and dreamlike--rich in surrealism, metaphor, and fantasy.

Myth and Infrastructure is a live performance with projected animation. The artist's shadow is constantly present from beginning to end - sometimes in semi close-up and sometimes as a full figure - as the world around her shifts and transforms. Traversing oceanscapes, cityscapes, and domestic environments, dreamlike scenes are conjured using light, shadow, and fantastical animation and video. A strange and beautiful hybrid form emerges--a marriage of theater, film, animation, and shadow puppetry.

Rosalyn Nasky and Steven Snowden will demonstrate how the energy contained within a living body has the power to shape the energy of the space around it. Rosalyn and Steven enjoy making projects that challenge each other’s creative process. This Place is their experiment in exploring the infinite worlds of sound within a body’s tissues. They’re fascinated by the idea that within any small part of the body there can exist large worlds of energy, that can then be extracted as sound and brought forth into the space. To investigate this in performance, they’ve been exploring new methods of interactive body sensory and motion tracking technologies.
