HIAS is actively seeking remote volunteers to join the Border Response Team at HIAS and support asylum seekers in Mexico.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Document translation
    This is open to Spanish and Haitian Creole-speaking individuals. Translate documents and help asylum seekers in preparing necessary evidence for their asylum cases. Volunteers complete three translations within six months.

  • Proyecto Compañeros
    a virtual project open to Spanish-speaking volunteers who are matched with asylum seekers enrolled in the “Remain in Mexico” program. Participants meet with their “compañeros” bi-weekly for up to 3 months.
  • Direct representation of asylum seekers
    a placement open to pro bono attorneys. They assist with applications to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
