About

Be a butterfly guardian! Memphis Botanic Garden is seeking volunteers to work in the Anne Heard Stokes Butterfly Garden on a monthly basis.

Work will primarily consist of hand-weeding, perennial grooming, and some planting. Use of chemicals and machinery in this garden is very limited. Volunteers should have a strong existing knowledge and appreciation of native plants, and ability to identify these plants in both a garden setting and natural setting, or the desire and capacity to learn and develop these skills.

At least one volunteer will help to monitor  monarch populations and record data to contribute to the citizen science efforts through monarchjoinventure.org. These volunteers will need to be able to come to the garden weekly April-November. Existing knowledge and interest in butterflies, conservation, and data recording preferred. Must be able to independently record and submit accurate data online.

Volunteers should be in good physical health, able to walk to and from the furthest point on the property, carry and haul at least 25 lbs, and work on their hands and knees. Volunteers should be prepared to get dirty and work in close contacts with insects, snakes, birds, and other wildlife.

For more information, please contact Brianna Siebert at brianna.siebert@memphisbotanicgarden.com or call (901)-636-4102.
