Development and Communications Intern

For 36 years Southside Community Land Trust (SCLT) has built community gardens and urban farms in and
around Providence, RI. The organization was founded to support our economically challenged neighbors in
South Providence, Olneyville and the West End by partnering with them to grow nutritious food, improve their
health and financial security and become increasingly self-sufficient. SCLT staff trains urban growers in
sustainable farming practices, and has engaged dozens of young people through our intern and apprentice
programs at City Farm in South Providence. With a network of 52 community gardens and urban farms, SCLT
works with farmers and small-scale growers to sell their produce at farmers markets as well as to local
restaurants and CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture shares). Learn more about SCLT’s work at

Internship Description

SCLT offers a friendly and fast-paced work environment. Individuals work independently and collaboratively to
accomplish their goals. The Development and Communications intern will work primarily with the Development
and Communications staff (Advancement team) and report to the Development Director. Tasks will be focused
on fundraising events that promote SCLT’s work. Specific responsibilities include:
Manage the planning and promotion of S CLT’s Table To Farm event. Guidance provided by the Development
Director and Advancement team to structure the planning and promotion of the annual event in held in July.
Specific tasks include:

● Develop and implement promotional strategies for publicizing the event
● Coordinate with farmers to provide produce grown on SCLT land to 2 participating restaurants
● Update existing event-related materials for use
● Coordinate and distribute promotional materials

Additionally:
Assist with development and event-related needs. This will vary depending on the timing of the internship and
overlap with the Development calendar. Tasks may include:
● Coordination with local businesses for participation in events
● Assistance with planning/implementing the Harvest Society Dinner at City Farm, SCLT’s ¾ acre urban
farm
● Participation planning the Harvesting Hope fundraising event (to take place in the fall)
● Lead the summer youth staff for the Harvesting Hope invitation mailing
● Data management
● Assistance at City Farm for harvest/set up & breakdown for event(s)

Preferred Qualifications:
● Excellent interpersonal/communication skills
● Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
● Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
● Proficiency with social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)
● Experience with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign is a plus
