About

What is Take-out Tuesdays?

Take-out Tuesdays is a partnership between the Campus Kitchen at UGA and Athens Community Council on Aging that focuses on reducing senior hunger in Athens. On the last Tuesday of every month, we distribute food to home bound older adults in our community. Majority of our clients for Take-out Tuesdays are all on the waiting list to receive Meals on Wheels. These seniors experience difficulty accessing a reliable source of affordable and nutritious foods. The hefty brown bag usually weighs around 25 lbs and consists of canned items from the Food Bank as well as fresh food items that have been recovered from grocery stores and farmers market via Campus Kitchen volunteers. We strategically make this reoccurring event at the end of the month- when finances can become strained for many of our seniors.

Volunteers will arrive at Athens Community Council on Aging, load 5-7 bags of food into your car, and make deliveries to the households listed on route sheets. Routes usually take about a 1.5 hours to complete.
