For the Summer 2018 work study, July 1st to August 30th, please contact The Samaritans for the times for training. 

We are especially interested in working with individuals who want a challenging community based learning opportunity including undergraduates, post graduate and medical students.  Spanish speaking students are encouraged to apply.

 

Required Training:

Our hotline training program consists of 21- 25 hours of classroom training, mentoring by experienced volunteers. All work study/internship students agree to a criminal reference and professional reference check and to the terms of a volunteer agreement form(s). This training can be modified for the summer students who are not trained. 

The Samaritans is not a licensed health care agency and no counseling can happen on this line. Each student is required to adhere to strict program policies designed in cooperation with 911, the RI State Department of Health, and other community agencies and professionals. Acceptance and continuance as a work study/internship or volunteer is always at the discretion of the Executive Director of The Samaritans.

 

Job Description:

Student work study/interns will provide supportive services and raise awareness of our programs including our suicide prevention Hotline/Listening Line and Safe Place support group, youth and teen education and general community education programs. Additional assistance may be provided with social media, including our website, constant contact newsletter and Facebook page as well as with our Forget-Me-Not Gallery or other administrative duties as needed.
