About
About BRIJ: BRIJ is a program that brings together Muslim and Jewish fifth graders from the Islamic School of Rhode Island (ISRI) and the Jewish Community Day School of Rhode Island (JCDSRI) for text-study and service work. We meet each week on Brown University’s campus for an exploration of shared values and teachings from Islam and Judaism that call on us to care for our community. Our lessons are interdisciplinary - incorporating literacy, science, engineering and art. Text-study serves as the foundation for direct action as we work together to fundraise for local organizations and volunteer in Providence.
Mission Statement: Our mission is to build relationships between Muslim and Jewish students within the Providence community. We strive to deepen our understanding of Islam and Judaism through text-study and action projects as we work together for social change.
Vision: At its core, BRIJ is about the relationships formed between our students. We connect the Jewish and Muslim communities in Providence across generations: the fifth graders, their families and teachers, and the college student leaders. Through local action, we become a voice in the global dialogue and movement towards peace and greater interfaith understanding.
