About

The Refugee Dream Center seeks enthusiastic and motivated facilitators for the Refugee Youth Dream program. Facilitators of this program will engage in teaching functional English, teaching refugee youth leadership and mentoring them on adjustment needs to a new country, self-esteem building and general adjustment related guidance for community youth residing in the Providence area.

The Refugee Youth Dream (RYD) is an original program of the Refugee Dream Center. True to the name of the Refugee Dream Center, the term ‘dream’ is central in the work of this program. The idea of this program was born out of need to support youth whose age and challenges warrant a dire need for mentorship and inspiration.

The Refugee Youth Dream program focuses primarily on targeting teens and young adults, as refugee adolescents are specifically faced with a number of challenges due to acculturation pressure and educational gaps. This is an innovative youth mentorship program. Facilitators of this program will help to empower young people by helping adolescents in identifying their character strengths, building hope, uplifting their self-esteem and building friendships, as well as enhancing understanding of cultural and global experiences.

Facilitators will both teach essential life skills and act as a mentor for the youth. The primary motive of the program is to bring together both members of the refugee youth community and local community youth. The intention is to pair these two distinctly different and unique groups to create a mutually beneficial and educational environment for both, while focusing on developing leadership and cross-cultural communication skills.

Facilitators will be expected to engage in bi-weekly RYD meetings, as well as engage in RYD planning sessions. RYD meetings and planning sessions will run alternatively each week.
