About

Responsible for managing and overseeing all outreach activities, trainings, and debriefs that take place throughout the semester. The Outreach Coordinator will stay in close communication with RIHAP to address issues in a timely fashion. Outreach coordinators will also motivate volunteers to utilize their perspective and unique role as outreach workers to lobby and advocate for political and social change to fight homelessness and poverty in Rhode Island. During trainings and when working with others, it should be stressed that though outreach is an important bandaid that creates integral connections with homeless folks in the community, it is NOT a solution to the structural issues which ultimately cause homelessness.

Anticipated Duties:

  • Create an outreach schedule (google sheet) at the beginning of each semester and send this to RIHAP

  • Develop Slack checklist for team leaders to perform before and after outreach

  • Periodically (once a week) check Slack to see if updates are being made by leaders

  • Attend monthly statewide outreach meeting @ RICH

  • Attend RIHAP meetings at Mathewson St. Church (weekly - Fridays @ noon) 1-2 per month when scheduling allows. (Can also coordinate this with Site Leaders)

  • Weekly supply check to restock outreach bags with granola bars, water, Rip-Tiks, and make sure outreach materials are up-to-date.

  • Communicate with Site Leaders and RIHAP members about ordering new supplies such as RIPTIKs

  • Organizing at least 2-3 Nighttime Outreach Trainings per semester for new outreach workers (work with RIHAP to schedule so ideally Barbara or Will can come to introduce themselves/help present)

  • Organizing a monthly “retraining” or educational lecture for outreach workers and other HOPE members on topics that are relevant and useful for outreach work.

  • Organizing a NARCAN training once a semester

  • Organizing a Fulcrum Training (or combining this into Outreach training) once a semester

  • Help lead and organize outreach granola bar drives at the end of the semester
