Springfield Immersion: Mind and Body: Health and Wellness in Our Community

Saturday, March 3rd, 2018 from 8:30am to 5:00pm (CT)

About

In Springfield, the priority health issues are lung disease, cardiovascular disease and mental health. Tobacco use is around 21%in Springfield, 3 points higher than the national average and this drastically effects the health of individuals. Smoking causes 87% of all lung cancer deaths and 32% of coronary heart disease deaths. Because of this, health care access and mental health are important areas of focus. During this immersion, we will serve with organizations developing steps to combat these issues and work toward understanding our own health and wellness. We will learn about the root causes of health issues in Springfield and recognize how we can take steps to change these numbers in the future.

Participants will be starting the morning with yoga, learning about health issues within our community and serving with Springfield Community Gardens in the afternoon.

Lunch will be provided.
