Gospel Pilgrim Cemetery was founded in 1882 to provide a beautiful and respectable burial place for African Americans in Athens. In recent years, the cemetery has become overgrown, and with about 9 acres of land and 3,500 burial sites, the cemetery is in need of maintenance. Please attend our March 24th service day to help restore and preserve this integral piece of Athens’ history! Service day will last from 9-12. Address: 530 Fourth Street, Athens GA 30601 and parking can be found at the church just up the street from the cemetery. We provide gloves, water, and tools but feel free to bring any tools of your own you think will be of use!
