Position Description: Student Bill of Rights (SBOR) Research Fellow


Position Title: Student BIll of Rights Research Fellow

Reports To: Organizing Director - Pol Tavarez

Position Overview

Providence Student Union (PSU) is a youth-led organization that is building student power to ensure young people have a fair say improving their education. PSU seeks a SBOR Research Fellow who is skilled, flexible, and devoted to our mission.

This position is responsible for researching the need and potential impact of the 22 articles in PSU's Student Bill of Rights. The research fellow will be tasked with compiling information and data that supports our work towards building more student power. Additionally, the research fellow will ensure that the information is accessible to our staff and greater student community.

Essential Functions

Role 1 - SBOR Research

Approximately 100% of time/effort

  • Work with PSU staff to develop research questions relevant to the SBOR. For example:

    • What is local and national work related to each article?

    • Who are the decision makers at school, district, city, and state levels?

  • Coordinate with PSU staff to build a template research profile for each article

  • Complete full research profiles for each article

  • Publish research profiles for each article

  • Work with PSU Staff to share research conclusions on PSU's digital media channels/website

Other duties as needed or required.

Qualifications and SkillsRequired
  • Strong computer skills

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Research ability/interest

  • Attention to detail

  • Occasional travel to PSU's main office at 741 Westminster St, Providence RI.

Preferred
  • Experience using Google Sheets and Airtable

  • Working with youth

  • Experience with research-based work

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.Compensation

This is a Brown University off-campus work study position.
