Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) is seeking volunteers for their biggest event of the year – KTMB’s Truckee River Cleanup Day- set for Saturday, October 13, from 9 am to noon. Hundreds of volunteers are needed for this massive cleanup and beautification effort throughout the Truckee River watershed. Last year, over 750 volunteers removed more than 24,000 pounds of trash and 38,000 pounds of invasive weeds during the Truckee River Cleanup Day. This year, volunteers are needed for various activities to beautify and clean up the Truckee River watershed, including trash pick-up, invasive weed removal, storm drain stenciling, graffiti removal and park beautification projects.
The part of Rancho San Rafael that is on the north side of McCarran off of N. Virginia Street. This area shares a parking lot with the "Reno Sports Complex". This is also where the City of Reno softball fields, disc golf course, Basque monument, and nature trail are all located. The street address is 2975 N. Virginia Street. Meet in the parking lot on the side closest to the trail head.
There is ample parking in the "Reno Sports Complex" parking lot.
The north side of Rancho San Rafael has wetlands and a watershed that leads to the Truckee River so it is important to remove invasive weeds to prevent spreading. It is also important to keep native vegetation from being outcompeted in this valuable open space. Volunteers should be prepared to hike in and out.
