Sandy Creek Nature Center is a 225 acres green-space located just outside of downtown Athens that provides over 4 miles of hiking trails. These trails meander through wetlands, forested uplands and highlight some of the stunning flora native to the Georgia Piedmont region. Unfortunately, invasive shrubs have invaded the forest understory and subsequently degraded the health of these stunning ecosystems. We invite you to take action and get involved in this local effort to restore balance to the forest understory at Sandy Creek Nature Center. Volunteers will clear invasive Chinese Privet and Autumn Olive from along the Clay Pit Trail using hand saws and pruners.

Meet us in the parking lot outside the Visitor's Center. Please wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, and a long-sleeved shirt. We also encourage you to bring water and stay hydrated while working!
