Judges and Logistics Volunteers Needed for Future City Competition!

Saturday, January 17th, 2015 from 8:00am to 5:00pm (CT)

About

The Future City Competition is a national project-based learning experience where students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade imagine, design and build cities of the future. After four months of designing a virtual city (using SimCity), researching, designing, and writing up their solution to a city-wide issue and building a scale model of their city, teams will present their vision to a panel of judges.

This flexible, cross-curricular educational program gives students an opportunity to do the things that engineers do—identify problems; brainstorm ideas; design solutions; test, retest and build; and share their results.

This year’s theme is Feeding Future Cities and it encourages students to explore today’s urban agriculture, from aeroponic systems for roof top farms to recycled gray water to the sustainability-driven farm-to-table movement, and develop a futuristic solution to growing crops within the confines of their city.

The Central Texas Regional Qualifier is happening January 17th, 2015 at Texas State University. We are looking for volunteers to judge student's presentations, and help out day-of! Contact Erin Cooper at ecooper@skillpointalliance.org for more information.
