DC EcoWomen's Mentor Dinner series connects environmental leaders with our members, and provides an opportunity to glean insights on different career paths in the environmental field. Join us on December 4th for our December Mentor Dinner with Kristen Harbeson, Political Director for Maryland League of Conservation Voters. This intimate mentor dinner is for up to six women who will have the opportunity to learn more and ask questions about Kristen's work and career trajectory within the realm of environmental policy, state politics, and timely elections.
Kristen Harbeson joined Maryland LCV in 2015 after five years as senior staff for Chairman Maggie McIntosh. During her tenure with the legislature, she worked for the Environmental Matters Committee through the passage of landmark stormwater and septics legislation, as well as with issues including fracking, pesticides and other land-use concerns. After a BA from Hampshire College in 1996, Kristen graduated with a MA in history and museum studies from the University of Delaware in 2000, moving to Baltimore to work at the USS Constellation Museum. Her passion for policy, however, led her to shift to advocacy work, first at Preservation Maryland and then the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers. In these roles she built coalitions and advocated for sustainable building practices and conservation, as well as for full funding for the Historic Preservation Fund and the Land and Water Conservation Act. During her free time, Kristen dedicates her time to her other great passions: Baltimore, traveling, dancing, history and spreadsheets.
