El Programa Hispano Católico seeks your volunteer service – no experience necessary!

Through considerable volunteer support El Programa Hispano Católico in Gresham offers free tax preparation to the Latino community, providing taxpayers a culturally-specific alternative to unlicensed preparers and to paying fees to prepare their basic tax returns. Last season our volunteers helped 1,000 low-income taxpayers secure more than $2 million in refunds and with your help we can continue this success! By providing just four hours a week during tax season volunteers can help provide an invaluable service, gain a meaningful experience and become part of a great team of like-minded people. 
Prior tax knowledge is not required, we provide you with free training!

Trainings begin December 29th and are offered throughout January, with volunteer service running January 23rd to April 15th. Evening and weekend shifts available. We offer the following positions depending on volunteer interest and availability:

Tax PreparerTake our free training and learn a useful new skill! Certify in basic personal tax law and prepare returns using IRS filing software. Must have intermediate to high level of Spanish and the ability to work comfortably on a computer. No tax experience required. Free 30-hour training provided over four Saturdays December 29th to January 19th, 8:30am-4:00pm.

Quality ReviewerDo you have tax experience, or know someone that does? Spanish helpful but not required! Our Quality Review position's main role is to ensure high-quality, accurate preparation and is crucial to the success of our program. Continuing Education (CE) credit is available for your volunteer service hours. Training hours depend on level of experience.

Intake AssistantDon't have time for our 30-hour training but still want to help? Help provide taxpayers assistance with their IRS and agency intake forms! Must have intermediate to high level of Spanish. No tax experience or computer skills. Free 3-hour training provided in January.

InterpreterAre you an Interpreter wanting to further develop your skill? Provide interpretation services for our taxpayers! Previous Interpreter training and experience preferred.
