Carnegie Community Engagement Classification - 2020 Cycle

The Carnegie Foundation’s Elective Community Engagement Classification is a way for Colleges and Universities in the US to gain recognition for institutionalizing community engagement. Campuses must apply for the classification, which is offered every 5 years. Campuses that receive the classification must reclassify after 10 years to maintain the classification. The Swearer Center is the administrative and research home of the classification.

For the 2020 application cycle, application fees (e.g., $750 + 4.072% credit card processing fee = $780.54) must be paid in order to access the online application, which will be available starting May 1, 2018.

Hi Poonam! We'll be updating the details soon on GivePulse and the 2024 cycle package will be available on March 1st, 2022 :) Let us know if you have any further questions.

Hello, we received the classification in 2015 and up for renewal in 2025. Would we order the re-classification package that is shown? I am asking because the dates are for the 2020 application cycle.
Thank you. Best, Poonam Salhotra, UHD

Hi Poonam!
The first-time and re-classification frameworks, which outline questions that will be asked in the formal application process, can be accessed by visiting the new Carnegie Elective Classifications website: https://carnegieelectiveclassifications.org/. This website features a timeline and resources to support applicants including workshops, webinars, and publications. As mentioned in the comment above, the actual application will open on GivePulse on March 1, 2022.

Campuses that received the Classification in 2015 may undertake re-classification in order to retain the Classification in the 2024 cycle or elect to undertake re-classification during the 2026 cycle. Campuses classified in 2020 do not need to apply for re-classification at this time. Campuses that received the classification prior to 2015 and did not re-classify in 2020 are not eligible to re-classify, but are invited to again participate in the first-time classification.

Please contact info@carnegieelectiveclassifications.org or visit the website's Frequently Asked Questions for any additional questions!
